The real reason you don’t do your weekly review as per the Getting Things Done Methodology is because you’re probably doing it wrong.

Here’s the thing: the weekly review is a crucial part of the GTD system, but it’s also one of the most commonly misunderstood and misused aspects of the method. A lot of people think that the weekly review is just about going through your to-do list and checking things off, but that’s only a small part of it.

The real purpose of the weekly review is to give you a chance to step back and assess your progress on your projects and goals, and to make sure that your to-do list is still aligned with your overall priorities. It’s also a time to reflect on what’s been working well for you and what needs to be tweaked.

If you’re not taking the time to do a proper weekly review, chances are you’re not getting the full benefits of the GTD system. So if you’re feeling stuck, or like you’re not making as much progress as you’d like, take a step back and make sure you’re doing your weekly review correctly.

Here’s a quick overview of how to do a proper weekly review:

1. Set aside some time each week, preferably at the same time each week, to do your review.

2. Start by reviewing your goals and projects. Ask yourself:

- What progress have I made on my goals and projects?
- What still needs to be done?
- What can I delegate or eliminate?
- What’s the next action on each goal or project?

3. Then take a look at your to-do list. Ask yourself:

- What can I do right now?
- What’s the next action on each item?
- What can I delegate or eliminate?

4. Lastly, reflect on what’s been working well for you and what needs to be tweaked. Ask yourself:

- What’s been working well?
- What needs to be changed?
- What can I do to make things easier or more effective?

If you’re not sure where to start, there are plenty of resources available to help you with your weekly review. But the most important thing is to just get started and to keep at it. It may seem like a lot of work at first, but once you get into the habit of doing it, it will become second nature.
