Think about all the things that you really want to enjoy, e.g. the quality of the relationships, the experiences and adventures you’d like to have.

Think about the perfect ideal fulfilling career for you, the one that creates a great financial abundance, and one that gives you all the material things you want, like your dream house.

Think about the emotional state, so you want to just think about all the things you really want to experience on an ongoing basis. And then let me ask you a question. What kind of person achieves that? What kind of a person has a life like that? What are you all about as a person?

What kind of a person do you want to become?

Your character is the sum total of your personality traits, it’s your inner nature, and it includes anything that makes up you, your behaviours, your thoughts, your ideas, your motives and your intuition, your judgments, your temperament, your tastes and your tendencies, all these things go into shading and colouring your identity, the balance of these components within you is what makes your character and what sets you apart from everyone else in the world. Your character is who you are inside but it determines how you live outside, it determines your behaviour in life, especially when you’re faced with a moral choice, a good character gives you a decision-making framework, an inner compass that helps you make good choices and help you avoid bad ones.

A good character will allow you to stay on track regardless of the pressures or temptations which come along in your life, your character will determine everything in your life, your level of health and fitness, the quality of your relationships, your career and financial success, the quality of the things and experience that you have in your life, even the length of your life is usually determined by your character. Now when we think of the things that make up a good character. We usually think about personality traits like honesty, integrity, reliability, determination, compassion, courage, character traits like these are actually a survival strategy, you simply can’t have a good life without them. So next up in our Giraffe Mindset journey is our character, who are you deep down, and who would you like to become in the future?

The origin of the word character is very interesting. It comes from the Greek word affording a great mark a symbol, or an imprint on the soul, and actually times a character was a symbol or a letter that was stamped into wax clay. Today we talk about Chinese characters. Describe the writing system. The original meaning was to stamp. So, the original meaning of the word character to engrave to imprint to stamp the process of building a good character can be thought of stamping your values onto yourself, imposing more order onto life.
